A Spoonful of Sofrito: A Guide to eating out with children!

A Spoonful of Sofrito: A Pinch of advice that will add a lot of flavor to your life.

A Guide to eating out with children!

Sofrito Lovers,

Summer Camps are over and those little kiddies are going to need some distraction, stimulation, and good food!  Exposing children to different foods, restaurant culture, and dining experiences at an early age is socially and culturally beneficial for them, so take them out to eat!  Now don't get me wrong, I know eating out with children is challenging, but it can be done.

Posted below is an article from Eater.com that will guide you on how to select a kid-friendly place, how to prepare them for the experience, and ends with a nice list of places to take your little sweetie pies.

Don't be intimidated, put off, or worried about taking your kiddies out!  You all deserve a good meal at a wonderful place!  Read the article, get prepared, and go taste for yourself!  ¡Buen Provecho!

Eater's senior critic offers tips for dining out with children, plus a list of family-friendly restaurants

by Robert Sietsema, August 19, 2016

It used to be that when parents delivered their first baby, they’d lament the end of their child-free lives, and sadly wave goodbye to the regular habit of going out to restaurants. You may find this hard to believe, but as recently as a few years ago there was an outcry against children in bars and restaurants, and even stashing a stroller inside the front door of an establishment was deemed obnoxious.

A Spoonful of Sofrito: A Pinch of advice that will add a lot of flavor to your life.

Frothy Iced Matcha Green Tea Recipe

Sofrito Lovers,

Get ready to thank me!  Posted below is a DELICIOUS, REFRESHING, AND SIMPLE recipe for Frothy Iced Matcha Green tea.  Matcha Green tea is a refined talc-like powder made from ground green tea leaves that has an amazing earthy flavor.  I don't care for warm green tea, but when served cold, with some sugar, it's wonderful!

The recipe posted below, from Serious Eats, is fast, fun, and frothy!  Besides the delicious flavor, green tea is full of anti-oxidants, vitamins, and minerals.  Matcha Green tea is considered a super food in Chinese medicine; it's often added to other medicinal health drinks.

Check out the recipe below and taste for yourself!  ¡Buen Provecho!

A Spoonful of Sofrito: Sunday Night Turkey Picadillo.

A Spoonful of Sofrito:  A pinch of advice that will add a lot of flavor to your life.

Sunday Night Turkey Picadillo

Sofrito Lovers,

Last night, I made a delicious Turkey Picadillo for my wonderful bear, David. Picadillo is a Latin Caribbean ground Beef-Turkey, Chicken or Pork-dish prepared with various spices, herbs, and vegetables.

It's a quick, simple, and delicious dish that pairs really well with white rice. My recipe is posted below; taste it for yourself!  ¡Buen Provecho!

Turkey Picadillo

Ingredients:

Pack of Turkey meat
1 tbsp of cooking oil
1 tsp of salt
1 tsp of black pepper
1 tsp oregano
1 tsp garlic powder
1 tsp onion powder
1 tsp ground cilantro
1 tsp ground cumin
Half an onion chopped
A packet of chopped mushrooms
Some grape or cherry tomatoes halves
1/2 cup of tomato sauce
1/4 to 1/2 cup of water (use less water for a thicker sauce)

Preparation:

Chop all the veggies and set aside spices.

Heat oil over medium heat and brown turkey meat.

Once the meat is brown, then add spices and veggies.
Mix and cook together until veggies are tender.

Add tomato sauce and stir in water.  Cook until boiling, then cover, reduce heat and simmer for 10-12 minutes.

Uncover and serve with rice. ENJOY!
