A Spoonful of Sofrito: NYC’s 13 Most Anticipated Openings of Fall 2018

A Spoonful of Sofrito: A pinch of advice that will add a lot of flavor to your life.

NYC’s 13 Most Anticipated Openings of Fall 2018

Sofrito Lovers,

As you should know by now, I'm a huge Eater.com fan and when they publish a list of places to visit, I'm there!  They published this awesome list back in August and I don't think I ever shared it with you!

Some of the eateries in the article still haven't opened, but most are pretty interesting. I'm still working my way through the list, but I hope to visit each of these new places by the end of the year!  I've been to Leonti, La Rossa, and I'm planning to visit to Misi any day now.

I'm disappointed that there were no uptown selections, which is usual for Eater.com, but maybe I'll come up with my own list here!  It's time to step up your game and start looking past the Upper East and Westside a little more, Eater.com!

Check out the article below and go taste for yourself!  ¡Buen provecho!

NYC’s 13 Most Anticipated Openings of Fall 2018: Fried chicken with natural wine, Spanish seafood, and other openings to look out for this season

Fall restaurant opening season is upon New York, one of the most active periods of ambitious debuts that the city will see all year. This fall, some of the long-anticipated restaurants whose openings have been delayed may finally see the light of day — including fried chicken from meat expert Billy Durney and a wacky but earnest Japanese import where diners can fish for their dinner.
Another long-delayed debut will come in the form of an Italian restaurant from Adam Leonti, a chef whose credentialed past in Philly made him a promising addition to New York. Legal snags kept him from cooking here, and he seems to be getting on his feet again by taking over the kitchen at the former Dovetail space on the Upper West Side.

As is par for the course for Italy-obsessed New York, some of the season’s most exciting new restaurants will serve various genres of Italian fare. Roman pizza by the slice will arrive via famed Italian chef Stefano Callegari. Missy Robbins of pasta hot spot Lilia will open another restaurant in Williamsburg. And Jody Williams and Rita Sodi will dish out paninis at a very casual Italian cafe.

A Spoonful of Sofrito: Puerto Rican Soup- Mama Guilla's Sancocho

A Spoonful of Sofrito: A pinch of advice that will add a lot of flavor to your life.

Puerto Rican Soup- Mama Guilla's Sancocho!

 Sofrito Lovers,

I saw this amazing cooking tutorial on Tasty and had to click on it- you don't see Puerto Rican cuisine on Tasty everyday! As I overheard Kara (the narrator), I couldn't help but feel honored, overjoyed, proud, ecstatic, affirmed, acknowledged and a lot of other emotions.  Here was this amazing young Puerto Rican sister showing us her beloved grandmother's,  Mama Guilla, recipe for Sancocho- a tradition meat and root vegetable Puerto Rican soup.

It was wonderful to hear the pride, love, and appreciation she has for her culture and her abuela's recipe.  It pulled at my heart strings and evoked many old family memories.

Check out the video and make yourself some amazing Sancocho.  Go taste for yourself!  ¡Buen Provecho!
