A Spoonful of Sofrito: Springbone Opens Friday in Greenwich Village

A Spoonful of Sofrito: A Pinch of advice that will add a lot of flavor to your life.

Springbone Opens Friday in Greenwich Village

Sofrito Lovers,

If you're a Bone Broth lover then you're in for a treat: SpringBone, a bone broth based restaurant, is opening on Friday May 13th in the Village!

SpringBone is the brainchild of "Broth Bros" Jordan Feldman and Sam Eckstein, who've crafted a Paleo friendly menu based primarily on bone broth made from grass-fed and free-range animal bones and organic vegetables.

I don't know about you, but I am THERE this weekend!  I'm a bone broth lover through and through!  I can't wait to review this menu and get my broth on!  I'll let you know what I think in future posts.

Check out the article from Eater.com below for more information on SpringBone!  Read it, go get some broth and ¡Buen Provecho!

The founders wanted a Paleo-friendly, health-focused place

The bone broth fad is hitting a new landmark: New York City will be home to a second broth-dedicated restaurant on Friday with the opening of Springbone Kitchen. Self-described "Broth Bros." Jordan Feldman and Sam Eckstein say they decided to open the restaurant at 90 West 3rd St. after "we searched obsessively for healthier options, but were left consistently disappointed by what we found," according to the website. The result: A Paleo-friendly menu primarily focused on broth, simmered for 36 hours and made with grass-fed and free-range animal bones and organic vegetables.

A Spoonful of Sofrito: Puerto Rican Food +Identity Talk in

A Spoonful of Sofrito: A Pinch of advice that will add a lot of flavor to your life.

Fung Bros Food: Puerto Rican Food +Identity Talk in

Sofrito Lovers,

The Fung Bros are two hilarious foodie, fashionista, music lovers that travel the U.S. experiencing other cultures' music, food, and fashion. I've never heard them refer to themselves as foodies, but their commitment to international cuisines is very foodie of them.

The video posted below, from FungBrosVideo, chronicles their first time tasting Puerto Rican food in New York City. I love that they were taken to Casa Adela, an AMAZING/INCREDIBLE/INDOMITABLE Loisaida institution, where Puerto Rican cuisine has been masterfully and passionately prepared by the Ferguson/Rivera family since 1976.

As you all know, I am a huge fan of tasting videos, but this one took it to the next level because of the identity talk. I've always said that food is one of the most powerful exemplifications of culture and their talk about identity was brilliant.

I won't give away any more. Check it out for yourself! If you still haven't tried Puerto Rican food, then get yourself to Casa Adela this weekend! Watch, laugh, and go taste for yourself! ¡Buen Provecho!

A Spoonful of Sofrito: Dave Arnold's Cocktail Science Bible

A Spoonful of Sofrito: A Pinch of advice that will add a lot of flavor to your life.

Dave Arnold's Cocktail Science Bible

Sofrito Lovers,

This summer I plan on becoming an awesome mixologistMy plan is to read a few amazing mixology books like, Liquid Intelligence, The Art and Science of the Perfect Cocktail and start making some refreshing beverages!

Recently, I've become intrigued by the science, art, and sheer creativity of mixology.  I think creating delicious drinks that perfectly compliment someone's meal is an amazing gift.

My friend Rodrigo-an up and coming bartender- highly recommended Liquid Intelligence; he said it's great starter book for amateur mixologists.

Honestly, I'm looking down the barrel of a stressful summer and I think I might have to start drinking (responsibly) to help take the edge off, might as well be an amazing cocktail!

A Spoonful of Sofrito: Men Taste test "Girly Drinks!"

A Spoonful of Sofrito: A Pinch of advice that will add a lot of flavor to your life.

Men Taste test "Girly Drinks!"

Sofrito Lovers,

The notion that alcoholic drinks are gender specific is the stupidest thing I've ever heard of.  This "Beer is for boys and Cosmos are for girls" mentality makes absolutely no sense!  We should all be able to enjoy whatever alcoholic beverage we choose without fear of judgement or humiliation.

We don't do this with food.  We don't say "Burgers are for boys and grilled cheeses are for girls" so why do we have these ridiculous notions about alcohol. Is it the drink itself?  Is it the glass it's served in?  I don't get it.

The geniuses at BuzzFeedVideo decided to have men taste test "girly" drinks and get their honest reactions.  I found their take on gendered drinks really interesting.  Only by acknowledging this nonsense can we end it.

Check out the video below!  It'll be enlightening!  Watch it and go drink a fruity slushy drink with a little umbrella inside!  ¡Buen Provecho!
