UWS Diner Shutters After 30 Years of Burgers — and More Closings


Sofrito Lovers,

Is there anything worse than going to one of your favorite eateries and finding out that it's closed?  You stand there in complete shock and awe at the loss of a place that held such a significant meaning to you.

All those wonderful meals there...over!  You'll never have their awesome pasta, burgers, or piping hot soups ever again.  You'll never enjoy their delicious drinks, shakes, or decadent desserts ever again!  The finality of it can be painful.

Losing a favorite spot can be akin to losing a friend or family member.  All you're left with is memories, regrets, and sadness.  I've been there! It's hard not to get emotional when a place that brought you such happiness, fun, adventure, whimsy and entertainment is gone.

The folks at Eater.com have compiled a list of some NYC based eateries that have shuttered in 2019.  Check it out and brace yourself!  Maybe finding out this way may soften the blow...maybe.

UWS Diner Shutters After 30 Years of Burgers — and More Closings

February 14

— After three decades of serving unfussy burgers and diner food in a tiny takeout space on the Upper West Side, Harriet’s Kitchen closed. It opened in 1989.

— The East Village lost bakery Patisserie Florentine. They served pastries, including almond croissants, for two years in the neighborhood.

— Upper East Side brunch spot Two Door Tavern shuttered. It also closed its Williamsburg location last fall.

— Troubled LES restaurant Brigitte has closed. It had just reopened in November after a second round of extensiverenovations and a rework.

— Pizza restaurant Fornino closed its Williamsburg location after 15 years in the neighborhood. Locations remain in Greenpoint and seasonally at Brooklyn Bridge Park Pier 6.

— Prospect Heights sports bar Woodwork Brooklyn closed. The new owners are opening another sports bar in its place.

— Tapanju Turntable, a Korean tapas restaurant, temporarily closed in the fall due to a gas problem, but that shutter is now permanent, as the landlord recently took legal possession of the space.
