New Yorkers have long been awaiting the arrival of DeKalb Market Hall — opening Friday in Downtown Brooklyn — that this website first began tracking back in early 2011. Very little was known about the food hall at the time of its announcement, which anticipated opening that same year. It did not.

A Spoonful of Sofrito: What is a Chopped Cheese?

A Spoonful of Sofrito: A pinch of advice that will add a lot of flavor to your life?

What is Chopped Cheese?

Sofrito Lovers,

What is a Chopped Cheese?  It's the most remarkable sandwich to come out of a Bodega since...well, any other sandwich I guess.

To be specific, a chopped cheese is a chopped up raw beef burger (seasoned with salt and pepper) and cooked with onions and green peppers.  Then, it's placed on a hero roll with lettuce, tomato, and covered in mayo and ketchup. Simple, cheap, delicious, and controversial as hell.

The Chopped cheese's origins are HEAVILY DISPUTED and the cause of many an argument among Harlem foodies.  I'm not touching this topic with a ten-foot long Chopped cheese sandwich! Whether it was invented in Harlem or not, it's a delicious inexpensive amazing sandwich and we should all be happy it's around!

Watch the video below from BuzzfeedVideo and learn some more about the infamous Chopped Cheese! Go taste for yourself! ¡Buen Provecho!
