Manhattan Popeyes Sell Out as Online Fried Chicken Sandwich Mania Hits NYC!

Manhattan Popeyes Sell Out as Online Fried Chicken Sandwich Mania Hits NYC!

Sofrito Lovers,

The Chik-fil-A Spicy Chicken Sandwich vs. Popeye's Spicy Chicken Sandwich war continues to rage both online and in the streets-Take cover people!

Twitter, SnapChat, and other social media platforms have been on fire with the opinions, reviews, and critiques of thousands of people concerning which sandwich is better.  It seems Popeye's is winning and according to the article posted below from Eater.com there are locations throughout this foodie metropolis that are running out of the famous sandwich within hours.  Check out the post below for more details.

I'm thinking of throwing my hat in the arena and giving my opinion.  I live by a Popeye's and have seen the advertisements for this new sandwich but haven't tried it yet- I think it's time!  I'm going to film my taste test and post it on here and my channel!  I hope it's as good as everyone says!  Look out for that video coming to you very soon!

Lower Manhattan Popeyes are selling out of chicken sandwiches

Big congrats to Popeyes, which has surely been the biggest winner in all the chicken sandwich social media buzz this week. In New York, locations of the fried chicken chain in high-traffic locations are selling out of the company’s new chicken sandwich, which a variety of online food critics are declaring the best chicken sandwich entry to the fast food market in some time. A Chinatown location of Popeyes was done with the sandwiches by 2:30 p.m. on Tuesday, and one customer says he’s tried to go three times, only to find that they’re out.

Of course, New York is no stranger to chicken sandwiches. In 2015, it seemed like every restaurant and its mom was trying to perfect the product here. For any connoisseurs trying to get their hands on the Popeyes version, locations in upper Manhattan or outside of Manhattan might be better bets.

Tasting Mexican Treats

Tasting Mexican Treats

 Sofrito Lovers,

I finally got around to producing my long-ago-promised Mexican candy and treats Tasting Video/Mukbang!  I omitted the candy part because a few weeks ago I had some and those chili covered nightmares gave me the shits!  Instead, I chose to focus on all those yummy looking Bimbo and Marinela cakes and fruit bars.

Did I enjoy these Mexican cakes and treats?  Were these snacks up to par?  Did these cakes and confections turn my stomach?

West Harlem is getting a new Food Hall!

West Harlem is getting a new Food Hall!

Sofrito Lovers,

Apparently, opening up Uptown food halls  is all the rage!  According to the Eater.com article below, by this time next year there will be a food hall opening up in West Harlem-with one allegedly opening up in Washington Heights this fall.

I say allegedly only because I'm around that particular area a lot (W. 183rd St. and Broadway) and the construction site doesn't look anywhere near ready to open.  But, you never know, I could be wrong-I wait with bated breathe!

The Harlem food hall will be housed in the new Jerome L. Greene Building on W. 125th St. and Broadway.  I hope this new hall provides new jobs, serves culturally appropriate cuisine, and isn't just another way for Columbia University to gentrify West Harlem.  I'll definitely keep my eye on this story.

Check out the Eater.com article below.  It was originally posted on Wednesday, August 14th, 2019, click here for the original post.

Columbia’s new science center will soon have a food hall from Franklin Becker by Serena Dai Aug 14, 2019, 2:01pm EDT

Another food hall’s opening uptown next year. Columbia University’s new science center in West Harlem will soon be home to a food hall from chef Franklin Becker, the man behind fast-casual lunch chain Little Beet.

The to-be-named Manhattanville complex inside the Jerome L. Greene Science Center is still being built, with a slated summer 2020 debut. Food options are still TBD as well, though could include Sicilian-style pizza, Israeli-style hummus, and Southern food. A full-service restaurant with outdoor seating will also be on the premises, potentially serving Spanish tapas. Becker will be developing three of the concepts and helping “curate” the other four.

Though it’s inside a Columbia University property, the food hall at 3227 Broadway at West 130th Street will be open to the public. Other retailers there include Dear Mama Coffe and Steep Rock Bouldering. Besides permanent vendors, the space will also host a seasonal weekend bazaar, when local vendors can sell their wares.

New York developer’s ongoing food hall obsession has hit Midtown, Downtown Brooklyn, lower Manhattan, and Flushing — but there aren’t as many uptown. This fall, Washington Heights’s first food hall will open, and Italian food company Cipriani has been planning to open a big one on the Upper West Side this year as well.

Becker’s a fixture of the New York dining scene, working for years at places like Catch before founding the Little Beet and the Little Beet Table. He most recently opened Hotel American restaurant La Central, a pan-regional Latin American restaurant that’s already become a scene. He’s left the restaurant to focus on the new food hall.

Stay tuned for more.
