A Spoonful of Sofrito: Tumeric Carrot Black Pepper Soup!

A Spoonful of Sofrito:  A Pinch of advice that will add a lot of flavor to your life.

Turmeric Carrot Black Pepper Soup

Sofrito Lovers,

Last night, my partner David's NYC big sister, Mea Moon, tagged me on this cool Facebook post for Turmeric Carrot Black Pepper Soup!  Turmeric is an amazing super food whose health benefits have been recorded for centuries.  Famous for its anti-inflammatory powers, Turmeric is also good for those of us with Diabetes (for controlling blood sugar levels), high cholesterol, and for those who're undergoing chemotherapy.

Mea's recipe is from Eatlocalgrown.com and it sounds delicious!  I can't wait to make it for my achy Broadway BearBear...and for me as well! The kids are back in school and already kicking my ass; my everything hurts!

Check out the recipe below and get to cooking!  Your joints, heart, and a few other vital organs will thank you!  Read it, cook it, and taste for yourself!  ¡Buen Provecho!

A Spoonful of Sofrito: Learn how to speak Japanese...food!

A Spoonful of Sofrito: A pinch of advice that will add a lot of flavor to your life.

Learn now to speak Japanese...food!

Sofrito Lovers,

Do you know how to speak Japanese...food?  Are you correctly pronouncing your Japanese food orders?  When you order Sake, do you pronounce it Sah-Keh or Sah-Kay?  I know I'm not fluent, but with the help of the post below maybe we can all learn to speak Japanese...food!

Posted below is a YouTube tutorial titled, "The Right Way To Pronounce Japanese Food Words" from Zagat's YouTube channel.  Zagat is world famous for its printed restaurant guide, but most folks unaware of their YouTube channel, which features restaurant reviews, cooking tutorials, and all types of amazing content.

After watching this video, I felt like an asshole for mispronouncing half of the Japanese food I've ever ordered.  Here I thought I was being culturally responsible and respectful, but I've been pretty much butchering the language. I'm glad I watched the video and now know better.

Do yourself a favor and take a look, learn, go to your favorite Japanese restaurant, and speak correctly! Go taste for yourself!  ¡Buen Provecho!

A Spoonful fo Sofrito: Elotes/Mexican Corn on the Cob!

A Spoonful fo Sofrito: A Pinch of advice that will add a lot of flavor to your life.

Elotes/Mexican Corn on the Cob!

Sofrito Lovers,

I am into corn theses day!  This is my second (and last) corn related posting for the summer!  Here we go folks, let's get Corny!

With the abundance of summer corn, I decided it was time to share my favorite recipe for preparing Elote!  For those who've never heard of it, Elote is an incredible Mexican street food that combines corn with cheese, butter, mayo, chili powder, and a few other savory ingredients.  When prepared properly, Elote can be a wonderful sweet, tangy, and spicy treat, that pairs well with most dishes. A nice elote with a grilled steak or baked chicken makes for an amazing meal!

The awesome recipe for elote posted below is from Emmymadeinjapan, an awesome YouTube channel that features recipes, tasting videos, and cooking tutorials.

Being an elote lover-I prefer butter or sour cream over mayo-I'm putting this recipe to good use as soon as I visit the Union Square Green Market and buy some delicious organic corn.

I hope you do the same!  Watch it, make it, and taste for yourself!  ¡Buen Provecho!
