A Spoonful of Sofrito: Favorite Ramen Bowls in NYC!

A Spoonful of Sofrito: A pinch of advice that will add a lot of flavor to your life.

Favorite Ramen Bowls in NYC!

Sofrito Lovers,

As Fall progresses, it's getting colder and when the nip in the air gets too intense it becomes time for hot soup-in particular, Ramen!

I love me some Ramen! I mean, real Ramen, not that heart attack causing swill you can buy for fifty cents at the bodega! I'm talking about a hot steamy bowl of Japanese deliciousness full of veggies, pork, and copious amounts of chewy noodles!  That is what real Ramen is and if this description is foreign to you, then you need to check out the article below and get your ass to one of these spots.

Once you have some real Ramen, you won't ever go back to those little salt bomb bags!  Okay, I can't front! When things are bad and I need a quick ramen fix, then I get a Machuran Oriental flavor, but I doctor it up as much as possible!  But still, you must try some of the spots mentioned in the EatNYC
article below!  I guarantee you'll love them!

Go taste for yourself! ¡Buen Provecho!

Face it: It’s going to start getting cold here in NYC. It’s undeniably fall and what comes next? That’s right. Winter (UGH). Winter means cold weather, sweaters, and hot soup. Don’t go for just any soup, though, try these bowls of ramen which just happen to be some of our faves...

A Spoonful of Sofrito: Where to eat on the Upper West Side!

A Spoonful of Sofrito: A pinch of advice that will add a lot of flavor to your life.

Where to eat on the Upper West Side!

Sofrito Lovers,

To quote Stephanie Tuder and Robert Sietsema (my all time foodie crush),
"The assertion that there are no good restaurants on the Upper West Side simply isn’t true." and I couldn't agree more!

The whole reason I started this blog was to enlighten people who think good food can only be found under 96th St.  When I first saw this post, I thanked the Foodie Gods for this blessing!  It's about time Eater.com featured these delicious uptown eateries!

This list is pretty awesome; I'm a huge fan of Makana and Curry King!  Check out the list for a few more amazing spots!  Go taste for yourself! ¡Buen provecho!

The assertion that there are no good restaurants on the Upper West Side simply isn’t true. From the upscale establishments around Lincoln Center to the cluster of great inexpensive eateries along West 106th Street to the string of mid-priced bistros marching up Amsterdam Avenue, the UWS has lots to offer.

Here, a map to the best, arranged geographically from north to south.

A Spoonful of Sofrito: 4th Annual Universal Pasteles Contest!

A Spoonful of Sofrito: A pinch of advice that will add a lot of flavor to your life.

4th Annual Universal Pasteles Contest!

Sofrito Lovers,

Mark your calendars!  Set your IPhone reminders!  Saturday, November 18th from 2pm-9pm join us at The 4th Annual Universal Pasteles Contest at the El Barrio Artspace!

This contest is a celebration of the incredible art of making Pasteles, which I describe as Puerto Rican tamales made from green banana, platanos, or yucca dough.  The dough is filled with a stewed meat (pork, chicken, or whatever),  wrapped in platano leaf, boiled, and served hot with your choice of condiments. Usually served during holidays, good pasteles are a celebration unto themselves!  They remind us of family, holidays, good times with friends, and how beautiful our culture is!

Every Boricua (Puerto Rican), thinks his or her parent or grandparent makes the best pasteles or that their family recipe is the most amazing!  This competition puts the daring and bold's claims to the test!  It's all friendly competition of course...yeah, right!

Check it out and GO TASTE FOR YOURSELF! ¡Buen provecho!

Top 5 CREEPY Facts About Starbucks!

Sofrito Lovers,

It might shock you all to know that I hate coffee!  Yes, this Puerto Rican doesn't like to drink café!  I think this widespread concoction is nasty as hell!  I'd rather drink mouth wash than that garbage!

Now, before you all beat me like a dime store piñata, just hear me out!  I was never raised with the stuff; my mother didn't believe in serving us this life blood of the Latino community.  When I was older and tried it for myself, I found the taste foul and off putting!

I know many of you love coffee and in particular Starbucks!  Being the enemy of all chain restaurants, bars, and coffee shops (I'll explain later), I thought it was necessary to share the video posted below from WatchMojo.com, Top 5 CREEPY Facts About Starbucks!  I found it really informative, interesting, and disgusting!  Get ready to have your mind blown!

Suck on that frappuccino!  Watch and then NEVER taste for yourself!  ¡Buen provecho!
