A Spoonful of Sofrito: Kids Try 100 Years of Thanksgiving Dishes

A Spoonful of Sofrito: A pinch of advice that will add a lot of flavor to your life.

Kids Try 100 Years of Thanksgiving Dishes

Sofrito Lovers,

Happy Thanksgiving (Thanks-TAKING!) to everyone that celebrates this problematic foodie holiday. I'll keep this post light and won't mention how this holiday is incredibly racist and disrespectful to Native peoples.

Instead, I've chosen to share a post from Bon Appetit titled, "Kids Try 100 years of Thanksgiving Dishes", which I thought was funny, adorable, and interesting. Who knew Oyster shooters, pickled walnuts, and Turnip puree were all once popular Thanksgiving (Thanks-TAKING) side dishes?  I find it simultaneously interesting and gross at the same time.

Check out the video below and laugh a little.  Before you gorge yourself on Turkey, Ham, or Pernil, take a minute to think of the people whose lives have been irreversibly and negatively affected by colonialism, exploitation, and racism.  Let's all be thankful for the people fighting to end these horrible -isms! I know I am grateful for them!  They make our world a new more beautiful place!

Go taste for yourself! ¡Buen Provecho!
