13 Plump Chinese Dumplings to Try in NYC
Pan-fried or boiled, but always juicy

One of New York’s finest dumpling shops shut its doors recently, but tons of other restaurants across New York City still offer fantastic versions of the dish. The term dumpling, of course, applies to foods in a variety of cultures. To keep things tight — and as a bit of an homage to the recently closed Lam Zhou — this guide will look only at Chinese dumplings, particularly guotie (pan-fried dumplings) and jiaozi (boiled ones). Soup dumplings deserve a category of their own and do not show up on this list; look out later for a guide to those.

Let it be our secret: the best sandwich on Arthur Avenue can't be found in any deli. It's one you make yourself with great ingredients from all over the neighborhood.

This is a simple Italian hero, heavy on the meat and cheese, one that forgoes nonsense like lettuce. You can make it on a bench with minimal mess, and it perfectly captures the slowly disappearing essence of Arthur Avenue's Italian spirit. Start with a split sesame loaf from Madonia Bakery, then go shopping for your fillings.

New York City has more than its fair share of themed bars. Between the terribly tacky and the oft overpriced, it’s hard to find the diamonds in the rough. From old-school speakeasies to cocktails resembling a scene from JAWS, these 13 themed bars capture themes at their finest.

Note: Bars are listed based on geography, starting south to north in Manhattan, then north to south in Brooklyn
